Walk among the tree tops this weekend in Calamvale

Staying around the neighbourhood is a pretty good idea if you’re lucky enough to live in Calamvale. You have one of Brissie’s best parks to enjoy, any time you want.

Calamvale District Park at 31 Formsby Street has so much to offer, you and your children might need to spend a few weekends taking it all in. From its award-winning playground to its toilet block that looks like a community art work, there’s lots for everyone!

Toddlers love the little adventure playground with its colourful equipment and soft, cushiony ground surfaces. They can even play with the entertaining xylophone, check themselves out in the curvy mirror and climb over the cool suspension bridges. It’s all under a glorious expanse of shade cloth too, so you might not have to worry about excessive sunburn. Bordered by green lawn, every play area is as comfortable as it is visually appealing.

If you have kids who are older, chances are they might normally have to be prised away from their screen devices. But show them this photo of the extraordinary treetops skywalk and they might even put their electronics down voluntarily!

Seriously, how cool is it? It’s an incredible looking feature that takes adventurers up, up and up – almost as if they’re walking in the canopy of the forest. To get down, there’s a fabulous, huge slippery slide that’s completely enclosed until the bottom.

Don’t miss the dual flying foxes where you can challenge your kids to a race and see who emerges victorious!

What makes Calamvale District Park so magical is that it can be enjoyed by the entire family. Its interactive toddler area will keep the little ones amused for hours, yet the big kids – that’s you too! – can explore the rock climbing wall, walking trails and beautiful landscaping. Don’t forget to take the dog because there’s a dog off leash area too.

Special needs accommodated

The amenities block includes a unisex disabled toilet with rail and a unisex disabled change room (accessible with an MLAK key which can be obtained from the Parkinson Ward Office). The park is wheelchair accessible with an abundance of flat, concrete pathways making it easy to get around.

Pack some snags and steaks and cook up a barbie on one of the well-maintained, clean, electric barbecues on the site. There are plenty of sheltered picnic tables and with all the activities and things to see and do, you’re virtually guaranteed a hungry mob will clamour to the table to appease their appetites.
