Brendale’s Main Park is a Green Oasis in this Industrial Suburb
Ok so you might not think of Brendale as a suburb with tons of visual charm or endless exciting activities … unless you consider it exciting to visit hardwares, mechanic workshops and factories. But it certainly serves a purpose in the community and that is to bring loads of businesses together in one convenient precinct where you can find everything you need to build a house, pave a driveway, mow a lawn, lop a couple of trees, tile a floor, fix a car or any number of other tradie-type tasks. There’s even a Mower Supastore if you’re inclined towards outdoor tools like brush cutters, hedge trimmers, chainsaws and, of course, lawnmowers.
Brendale residents are every bit as house proud as your suburban neighbours who live in shiny streets lined with McMansions or sweet workers’ cottages. And you need your yard to reflect that pride which is why you’re just as likely to be found doing a bit of garden maintenance after work or on the weekend. Or booking your lawn mow with GreenSocks!
There are a few pretty decent parks in Brendale and they deserve to be frequented for the sheer appreciation of open land in a busy, built-up area. One of them is Alf Shaw Park which is on the part of Stanley Street that is literally across the road from the Brendale boundary.
Equipped with playground equipment, a great spread of lawn, some nice shady trees, a basketball court and some footy goal posts, what more could you want from a neighbourhood park?
Small children will love the playground with its slide, spring rider and fort. Older children and adults will be happy with the bicycle track and lovely open field to run around or/or kick a ball. There’s a bonus oval alongside which makes it a fabulous spot to run laps or time yourself walking or jogging so you can better your speed over a period of days, weeks and months.
Alf Shaw Park is partially fenced and there is convenient parking right nearby. Or, given Brendale’s mostly flat terrain, it’s an easy walk or ride around the area, to wind up at the park for a drink stop.
